| |  | Cassie & MaynardCassie and Maynard were from a litter of kittens born feral near Roanoke, VA in 1993. The surviving members of the litter and their mother were live-trapped when the kittens were about 6 weeks old and rescued by a private shelter in Vinton, VA. Presumably because of that experience outdoors, both of them are extremely skittish, Cassie more so than Maynard. In fact, many folks swear Cassie is a figment of our imagination, since she never comes around when they visit. We adopted them as kittens in 1993.

| |  | CinnamonCinnamon was adopted from the same shelter where we got Cassie and Maynard, in Vinton, VA. Cinnamon is our elder statescat, and wouldn't hesitate to remind you that she came first... all these other cats are interlopers to be tolerated with grace and patience. When we adopted her, she was described to us as "nice, but not a lap cat." That's news to us! She normally can be found in the evenings curled up on or near one of us, and her favorite sleep spot is on the bed, between our pillows. We adopted her in 1993 as a 2-year old.

| |  | MadelineMadeline is another shelter cat, adopted as a 1-year old in 2005. The folks at the APS of Orange County shelter thought she was one of their favorites at the time. She and her litter of kittens were brought to the shelter. After those kittens were weaned at the shelter, she fostered another litter of kittens whose mother had died. Apparently, she likes the foster mom role, since she's fully adopted Sahara and Sirocco (and they her). Madeline is a real climber, and she loves to hang out on the tops of our kitchen cabinets.

| |  | NimbusOh, what can we say about Nimbus! Also known as "Psycho Kitty", Nimbus was our problem child. She knew exactly how far she could push us before she had to turn on her lovable side. Let's see... some of her escapades included: chewing everything in sight, climbing the walls (literally... at least the doorjambs), and regularly going from "nice kitty" to "psycho kitty" (and back) in the blink of an eye. She also loved water, so any idea of training her with a squirt bottle went right out the door quite early... she'd sit there and lick the water off her face and say "Is that all you've got!?" We adopted her from a co-worker of Lynette's in 1995 as a kitten. When we moved from Durham to Hillsborough, Nimbus never got to like the idea, and she let us know it frequently. Unfortunately, she developed a very agressive bone cancer in 2007.

| |  | Sahara & SiroccoBorn in November 2007, Sirocco (male) and Sahara (female) were part of a litter of six kittens. Their coloration led to the desert-themed names (although with Sirocco's speed, "desert wind" was inevitable). Their mother was an indoor cat who made a dash for it while in heat. She came back inside to have her kittens, and we got them on December 26, 2007 at 6-weeks old from the home where they were born.
